The Complete Home Cleaning Checklist

Everything pros check off in a top-to-bottom cleaning. Bookmark, print, share.

Pro tip: Tackle one room at a time. Start with the kitchen (most use), end with bathrooms (wettest). Save floors for last.

Kitchen

• ☐Wipe down all countertops with sanitizing spray
• ☐Clean stovetop, burner grates, and drip pans
• ☐Clean inside microwave (top, sides, bottom, turntable)
• ☐Wipe exterior of all appliances (fridge, oven, dishwasher)
• ☐Clean and disinfect sink and faucet
• ☐Empty and clean inside trash bin
• ☐Sweep and mop floor (including under table + appliances)
• ☐Wipe cabinet fronts and pulls
• ☐Clean inside microwave
• ☐Wipe down small appliances (coffee maker, toaster, etc.)

Bathrooms

• ☐Scrub toilet inside + outside (base, behind, lid)
• ☐Clean and disinfect sink, faucet, countertop
• ☐Scrub tub or shower (walls, floor, fixtures)
• ☐Wipe down mirror with streak-free cleaner
• ☐Clean inside cabinets/drawers if shared with guests
• ☐Empty trash + replace liner
• ☐Sweep and mop floor (especially around toilet)
• ☐Wipe down towel bars + hooks
• ☐Replace hand towels with fresh ones

Living Areas

• ☐Dust all surfaces (shelves, tables, lamps, picture frames)
• ☐Vacuum upholstery + under cushions
• ☐Vacuum all carpets including under furniture
• ☐Sweep and mop hard floors
• ☐Clean ceiling fans + light fixtures (top + blades)
• ☐Wipe down baseboards (gather dust!)
• ☐Clean window sills + frames
• ☐Spot-clean walls (handprints, scuffs)
• ☐Empty all trash bins + replace liners

Bedrooms

• ☐Change bed sheets + pillowcases
• ☐Dust headboard, nightstands, dresser tops
• ☐Vacuum under the bed (where pets sleep, etc.)
• ☐Wipe down ceiling fan blades
• ☐Empty waste bins
• ☐Wipe down door handles + light switches

Whole Home (don’t forget)

• ☐Wipe all light switches + door knobs (highest-touch surfaces)
• ☐Dust HVAC vents + ceiling corners (cobwebs)
• ☐Spot-clean glass doors + windows
• ☐Vacuum or sweep entryways including mats
• ☐Refresh air filter if monthly (check date)
• ☐Wipe down inside front door + handle (it gets touched a lot)
• ☐Take out all trash + recycling
